Tom Cox at Frankfurt Book Fair: State of AI in Publishing Today

At the 2023 Frankfurt Book Fair this October, few meetings or events took place without some mention of artificial intelligence.

The capabilities of AI and large language models are advancing almost daily, and book publishing experts are examining the best ways to introduce AI into their workflows while preserving creativity, copyright, and security.

At one of the most well-attended B2B events at Frankfurt this year, “The State of AI in Publishing Today,” Veristage co-founder Thomas Cox moderated a discussion with three publishing experts about the dynamic AI landscape and its transformative potential for the publishing industry.

The speakers—Christoph Bläsi, Professor for Book Studies, Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz; Nadim Sadek, Founder and CEO, Shimmr AI; and Anna Soler-Pont, Literary Agent and Founder, Pontas Literary & Film Agency—approached the topics from various perspectives, each drawing on their own experiences and expertise.

Across the board, the panelists were optimistic that AI will have positive effects on publishing. They said that AI has the potential to make the industry more efficient, effective, and reader-centric.
