Things are moving quickly here. It’s only been a couple weeks since our last release, and we’ve already got a new set of AI tools for you to try.
New Style Coding Tool
Insight’s newest document tool automatically assigns style codes (typecodes) to every paragraph in your Word manuscript to help you prepare for typesetting and production. This tool identifies structural elements like chapter titles, headings, body text, block quotations, and back matter.
Insight includes a built-in default profile with 59 industry-standard codes. You can also create your own custom profiles, clone and modify the default, or import profiles.
Try it: Open any Word document and go to Actions > Document Tools > Style Coding.
Improved Index Creation
The Index tool for PDFs has been updated with new options to give you more control over the length and complexity of your generated indexes. You can now:
- Choose an Index Size (Small, Medium, or Large) and a Detail Level (Concise or Detailed).
- Enable new advanced options for adding cross-references (See and See also entries between related terms) and auto-detect page numbering, which automatically identifies page numbers in your PDF.
We’ve also significantly improved the overall quality of generated indexes, with more accurate term identification and better-organized entries.
Try it: Open any PDF document and go to Actions > Document Tools > Create Index.
Update Metadata and Fields from AI Chat
AI Chat can now see and update all the fields generated about your book. You can ask chat to display a particular field, rewrite the content, then update that field with your new version. You can also reference a metadata field in your conversation as context or additional information.
Examples:
- “Show me the Facebook posts for this book.”
- “Check whether this book has BISAC or Thema codes.”
- “Write a 100-word marketing description of this book. Include the strapline from the Amazon description field.”
- “Translate this book’s Amazon description into Portuguese.”
- Create 5 unique selling points in AI Chat, then ask the chat to “Add points 2 and 3 to this book’s unique selling points field.”
Try it: Go to AI Chat and add a book to your conversation. Ask to see or modify a metadata field associated with that book.
GPT 5.4 in AI Chat
GPT 5.4 is now available in Insight’s AI Chat. This model from OpenAI was released earlier this month, and we’re seeing good and consistent results when using it.
Try it: Go to AI Chat and choose GPT 5.4 in the LLM selector.
GPT Image Generator in AI Chat
We’ve added GPT Image, the latest image generation model from OpenAI, to AI Chat. Our default image model from Google occasionally blocks legitimate image requests. GPT Image is a reliable alternative so you can create the images you need.
How it works: If Google Gemini doesn’t generate an image for you, Insight automatically switches to GPT in the background to generate the image.
If you prefer to use GPT Image all the time, go to User Menu > Account > Image Generation and choose GPT.
General Guidance:
- GPT generates very good book mockups based on your cover design. It follows your instructions more precisely on elements like the thickness and format of the book.
- Google Gemini is great for more complex images, especially marketing banners and images based on your book cover designs.
Try it: Go to AI Chat and try one of your favorite image generation prompts.
Improved Support for Illustrated Books
The Illustrated Book upload type has been updated to give you better results on illustrated adult nonfiction where images play a key role in the content, including:
- Art and photography books
- Silent (wordless) books
- General illustrated titles
Insight uses visual analysis for this document type, incorporating image descriptions into the AI-generated metadata and analysis.
Try it: Click Upload and choose “Illustrated Book” as the document type.
